overview

The elderly population, despite its valuable experiences, requires more care and special attention to health. Studies have shown that older people are more likely to have a chronic disease and are being treated than other age groups. Patients' medical control is generally the responsibility of patients after discharge from the clinic or physician, who needs to schedule and manage the correct use of drugs. According to the ability of memory and living conditions, we intend to help manage medicines and control the health of the elderly during treatment.

Target audience

Medication is common in the elderly, followed by the elderly who are the largest users of the drug compared to other age groups.

The "core" Double Diamond design process.

The Design Process

During this study, I followed the Double Diamond process created by Design Council. It has a great number of advantaged allowing to organize design and to prevent the designer from achieving random results. On the other hand, the relationship between diverging and converging phases is agile enough to be easily adjusted to specific design needs. I believe that each design is different, and for each project, slightly different methodologies should be used. The framework, however always stays the same.

Competitor Analysis

Questionnaire

Due to the age of our target audience, we faced a big challenge to ask the questionnaire questions. People at this age, especially with various diseases, are not able to answer many questions or write long answers. Therefore, we designed only a limited number of questions with multiple choice answers to obtain a little information about the demographic information and the inadvertent and intentional mistakes of these people in taking the drug.

interview

I interviewed 10 users aged 59 to 72. Every interview session was recorded, in order to recall information afterward. User Interviews also finished Discover Phase, it was time to converge gathered information

Ideation workshop:

An Ideation Workshop was held for persona in view of generating as many ideas as possible to try and address their needs. During the session, we explored the following 'How Might We' statements’,During the brainstorming, we were answering questions based on Opportunity Areas.

Affinity Diagram:

At this point, we had a lot of qualitative data from our research projects, but it was messy and poorly organized. We needed to structure and find relationships between common topics, and the affinity diagram was revealed to be the best tool for this task. We did it using Miro board. During the process, we had a lot of back and forth with our research data, and we just understood the power of good note-taking.

style guide :

inspirations and ideas about visual style ,The general idea of the design was simplicity, avoidance of complexity and legibility, so that on all pages, all icons have titles and the size of fonts and icons is larger than standard. The selected colors are a neutral color and a main color (blue) and the rest of the only colors are dark and light of these two colors, the reason for this choice is to maintain simplicity and readability. The blue chosen is Google's blue, and the reason for this choice is to pay attention to vision problems and color blindness.

About product system design components

To unify the procedure in design, we needed to design and organize repetitive elements. We studied to choose the color. During our research, we found that blue is the best option for our product, because it conveys a sense of calm and health to the user, and it has a better position in terms of availability than other suggested colors. For this reason, we chose the main color of the product, blue, and formed different parts by placing the material principles at the source. In the design, we tried to use an eight-pixel Grid system, but since our target users are over 50 years old, we sometimes moved the dimensions out of the 8-pixel system in favor of the user. During the design process, the system design became more mature and better than before, eventually becoming a resource for our design.

Collecting Inspiration

Research Finding Overview

Meet our Persona

Insights uncovered through research synthesis were used to develop a key persona representing a prospective candidate for my pills

65% of people found that Most problems arose when the routine of these people's lives changed, Like traveling and holidays.

45% of people are more likely to mistake the drugs When the dosage or color changes (change in the manufacturing ).

They are worried about running out of medicines and not having a backup

80% of people prefer not to get help from anyone! And be independent.

The methods used to remember have become repetitive over time and are no longer effective.

55% of people were unable to find by the name of medicine more know the shape of their drugs.

Solution

Let's design an experience in the form of a digital product under the Android platform, so that with the help of this product, it is possible to facilitate reminders, how to use, control the treatment period, and record the information of each treatment period for later uses. It should be noted that our target group is familiar with mid-level to low-tech technology and it is relatively difficult for them to use different mobile applications

How Might We ..........

Help Fateme to Make sure the medicine is available and takes her medicine?

Convey the Be consistent with the mental patterns you have used so far with Fateme?

Help Focus more on the image than the text?

-The first page should show daily information. They need quick access a day before and a day after because they directly affect today's situation and tomorrow's schedule.

-If we can give her the feeling of "following a path" in the daily schedule as if he gets an achievement every day, it will be great!

-The report page should be able to answer all the doctor's questions!Like ( Which medicine did you not take this week? Did you take heart pills regularly? What drugs have you handled in the last six months?)

-Adding a new drug should be easy and, at the same time, complete. Fatima will spend time there explaining all her medicines.

-The worry of running out of medicines needs an independent solution, she should be able to check the inventory whenever she wants and receive a purchase message on time.

Concept definition

A user flow were then developed to confirm the paths that persona would take when using the ideas being developed from the Ideation Workshop

The results of the brainstorming were later evaluated by answering HWM Questions based on Design Principles.

SECONDARY RESEARCH (DESK RESEARCH)

we conducted secondary research through online articles, community forums, and videos to understand people's habits and the methods they use to remember their medicine.

We read various articles and sites to get general information about the level of familiarity of people 50 years and older with technology, the amount of drugs they use, common diseases in this age range and the risk of these diseases and not taking them in time. Obtain medicines related to them. We also talked to two pharmacists about not getting enough information about medications.

Below is some example of LOW FIDELITY prototypes that user tested at early concept stage.

3/5 people said it takes time to add the medicine process.

4/5 people said they love the picture of medicine and it s helpful.

4/5 people said the homepage has a good tracking process.

The particular version of Companions: Let's expand the Companions section and prepare a special companion version so that sending messages inside the program and sharing information needed by the patient can all happen within the app, and the history of these conversations will be recorded.

Cooperation with online pharmacies: the possibility of buying some drugs from online pharmacies and scanning the prescription for certain medications can make the user unnecessary to go to the pharmacy. On the other hand, the setting of automatic purchases for medicines whose number is less than the defined limit can be an attractive feature for many users.

The possibility of further customization for the following versions: for example, the notification sound is one of the parameters that can generally be set by default from the sounds of the program. The possibility of sound recording for use in program alarms (for example, listening to the grandson's voice for the grandfather who reminds him to take his medicine) can have a more positive effect on maintaining the order of appointments.

There is Always Space for Improvement

The design process technically never finishes. There are always new tools to be used, new technologies constantly emerge, patterns change. Therefore UX Designers should constantly learn and broaden their knowledge. Learning is never finished process as well.

What did I learn?

Users are generally willing to share their opinions and talk about their feelings. The tricky part is to moderate interviews well, so the small talk is limited to the necessary minimum.

Exploring beyond domain is crucial for innovation. I believe that looking for inspiration in different fields is very important. Similar problems to our own could be already solved in a slightly different context.

The first idea is rarely the best. Sketching on paper is important. I believe the more ideas are transferred onto paper, the higher the chance is to create an innovative product.

Wireframes should be RAW. I learned the more unpolished the wireframes look like, the more likely users are to give constructive feedback.

Designers should also consider removing unnecessary features. There is a tendency in the industry to develop products by adding new features, but it is not always the best solution. Sometimes simplification could also increase usability.

What could be improved?

Brainstorming: by introducing some simple relaxing games. Stakeholders and users are often afraid of being stigmatized by making wrong decisions or looking stupid. It is very important to show people that during brainstorming sessions there are no bad ideas.

The process itself could be improved. There are always new techniques that could be introduced to the process. I should work to improve the techniques of digitizing analog resources.
